“Stronger” – Kanye West vs. “Harder Better Faster” – Daft Punk
Oh what to compare. Harder Better Faster was an original creation by Daft Punk which was then sampled by Kanye West and rewritten utilizing some of the key lyrics and the beat.
The highly repetitive beat and main chorus lyrics allows the song to stick in your mind easily with an open message that is open to interpretation or influence. In the original Daft Punk version to which a animated movie was written suggests that we are all being changed from who we are in a conformist sense to become “Better, Faster, Stronger” in the eyes of corporate America. Daft punk is poking fun at this and suggesting the opposite that we are becoming controlled automatons bringing new meaning to Harder, better faster robots.
In the Kanye West version (see lyrics below) the artist has rewritten the track with an overlay of his rap to change the overall meaning of the song suggesting that the sexual favors he wants from a girl will make him “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”. The irony of this song is that Kanye in my opinion suggests that his rewritten version of the song is better than it used to be and he is the greatest artist around and not following a corporate automaton.
